A surprise for Mike Willetts at Carnforth Handover

It isn't often that Rotarian Mike Willetts is lost for words. However, on Thursday 7th July he was completely taken by surprise when retiring President, Ian Bradley, awarded him the Paul Harris Fellowship.
This was in recognition of the sterling work that Mike has done in Kitale, building a school and encouraging it to become self sustained and also helping Physionet to collect and export medical aids to overseas countries.

We are all looking forward to another eventful and fun filled year.

First Carnforth Health Mela, Great Success!

Carnforth’s well on the way to becoming one of the healthiest town in Lancashire due to the awareness raising event held on Saturday, June 25th, when the town hosted its first ever ‘Health Mela’. This unique festival, modelled on the South Asian tradition of community fairs was dedicated to the celebration and promotion of community health and wellbeing.
The initiative was sparked by the former Rotary Cumbria and Lancashire District Governor, Kevin Walsh, who worked in partnership with the NHS Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Better Care Together and the National Forum for Health and Wellbeing. This dedicated team received enthusiastic support from the Head-teacher, staff and students of Carnforth High School and Carnforth Rotary Club. We give special thanks to Lyn Summers, Rotary Club of Lancaster Loyne, for the Risk Assessment, the ladies from Carnforth Inner Wheel who brewed Teas and coffees in the rather warm Gallery and the Carnforth Rotarians who did a splendid job directing cars for parking.
